The Problem with Online Dating

Preditory Gamification

Online dating has become a 5 Billion dollar market. However, especially young people are lonelier than ever before.

Many apps optimize for retention, with predetory gamification features, biased algorithms and other mechanisms hijacking the dopamine systems of the brain.

Eyes Wide Shut, on the other hand, is free - and always will be.

Performative, Superficial & Exhausting

The experience of online dateing is fundamentally misaligned with the needs of the user. It is unable to reliably create positive and lasting experiences on the intersection between meaningful private connections and performative public profiles.

Men struggle to be matched in the first place while women struggle with a paradox of choice and an overwhelm of possibility, leading to an overall increase of superficial behaviours unconducive to lasting relationships.

Finally, the visual nature of modern apps place more importance on appearance than compatability, character, integrity or values - keeping users always looking for their next swipe.

We aim to be fundamentally different We want to return privacy to the intimacy of dating, bring back intentionality to connecting with others online and strip the visual dominance from what truly matters in a long-term partner.
